Create a Relaxing Retreat: Inspiring Patio Ideas

When life gets stressfully busy, where better to escape from it all for a while, than your own back garden? We have some inspiring patio ideas to help transform your outdoor spaces into a relaxing retreat.

Timeless and Traditional Patios In Natural Stone

This natural sandstone patio is an ideal spot for enjoying a cup of coffee, a glass of wine and a few moments with the Sunday papers.

The colour and finish to the stone pavers makes them look as though they’ve been there forever. And of course they co-ordinate beautifully with the property for a lovely settled and serene vibe. Coupled with mature shrubs that echo to the sound of birdsong, this is the sort of patio where happy memories will be made.

Clean and Uncluttered

For some of us, clutter causes confusion and tension. So the clean lines of this new porcelain paved patio are the perfect place to clear the mind. Comfy garden chairs with perhaps some gentle evening lighting and even an outdoor movie screen would make this patio the ideal spot to unwind at the end of the day.

An All-Weather Outdoor Retreat

Out of all the inspiring patio ideas on this page, this is my personal favourite. The patio is set away from the house (out of earshot of the occupants) and has a contemporary pergola erected to hide the space from neighbouring properties. The pergola has removable sides, ambient lighting and is surrounded by raised beds full of aromatic herbs.

It’s a wonderful retreat for sunny days, grey days, drizzly days, al-fresco breakfasts and evening drinks. A great all-rounder and, according to our clients, a really good investment.

Pretty and Flexible

The joy of a well designed and well built patio is that it can be flexible. This space, adjacent to the owner’s home is big enough for several people to sit around a dining table and even has room to accommodate a small party.

Imagine holding a children’s birthday party outside on an easy-to-hose-down surface. If your idea of relaxation involves surrounding yourself with much loved friends and family, then a generously sized patio is for you.

A Heartwarming Feature

When you are investing in a garden transformation, you want to get as much use out of it as possible. A built in firepit allows you to do exactly that. It’ll keep the mosquitoes at bay when you want to sit outdoors in summer. And in spring and autumn, when the sun is bright but there’s a nip in the air, sitting by an outdoor fire will definitely warm the cockles of your heart.

For evening times, the feeling of making s’mores with friends, and basking in the smell of woodsmoke while you sup warm cider is simply unsurpassable.

Send the Noisemakers Outdoors

What is it you want to retreat from? As Dad to very young twins, I welcome the occasional bit of me-time but it’s very hard to find peace and quiet. Unless —— we send the children outdoors for some messy play on the patio.  Sand, water, air-drying clay - they love all of that stuff. And while they’re engrossed outdoors, I can prepare the quotes for my next landscaping jobs.
